Want to PR your snatch? All you have to do is prioritise this ONE thing. It’s called position 1. It is our power position, the place where we can actually add that vertical energy into the bar and get it overhead. Everything else in the pull is us setting up to just get to this one position. If you nail this… you change your lifting forever.
The secret to writing effective programs for strength come from asking the right questions. Will this give me the right stimulus I am after? Will this inspire the confidence need to take bigger and bigger weights, do more reps or progress the exercise? What is the progress or goal i’m really chasing? Coach @ashjones_nss broke all this down in his lecture on programming at our recent @rawbarbellclub training camp. Ash is the head programmer at RAW so if you are interested in getting strong and making gainz. Reach out to work with us!
Want to learn how to lift a log? Don’t know where to start? We love breaking movement down into bite-sized chunks. We split the Log Clean into 4 Steps 1) The Pick - can you RDL the log to standing 2) The Lap - Can you rest it on the legs and hug it to the chest (remember those high elbows) 3) The log squat - Can you continue hugging the log as you stand up and push your hips forward underneath the log 4) The Turnover or clean - can you uppercut the log into place on your shoulders If you got these steps down not only will you be able to learn easily you won’t develop any bad habits that will mess you up for your future lifting! If you found this helpful consider sharing it. It helps us out a lot
Dude you almost had that… Missed that lockout right at the top!! Heard that before? It means you are anticipating the weight. You are pressing into your lockout rather than past it. A great cue that @coachmitchmayhew uses is to “put it on a shelf” Not just any shelf, the highest one Keep reaching past where you need to It’s where you need to be to really solidify that lockout. Try it out… Interested in more content like this? Which others lifters and coaches should I film with?
“I have no idea what to focus on” Ever feel like that? I’ve been there …and that’s why I developed a framework for thinking about how to approach any movement When it comes to lifting the first thing you want to do is capture the ‘still frames’ this is your storyboard. Make sure you understand and can hit the key POSITIONs that we want you to hit. - this means breaking it up and playing with the pieces ie. overhead squats, snatches from the hang or position 1, even pauses. Once you can nail the positions it’s time to add the movement focus in, now we care not only about the positions but what it looks like to TRANSITION between them. - Add those complexes in. Pull to knee + snatch, hang clean + clean etc. Lastly once you’re keeping it nice and tight you can work on RHYTHM. This is the timing and speed element. We can play with slowing parts of the lift down and speeding other parts up to make the lift smoother. - Tempos, slow eccentrics, panda pulls etc. If you refer back to and through this framework. In this order you’ll alway make progress in your learning. It’s what I’ve used with 100’s of athletes and what has made the biggest difference. If you are interested in getting better at weightlifting technique reach out to me. DM me ‘COACH’ and let’s chat about how I can help
The monster dumbbell is on of the most unwieldy implements we press in strongman. It’s heavy, awkward and it’s unilateral. Often times if you haven’t come from a CrossFit or Weightlifting background it’s difficult to comprehend the use of your legs in driving the Dumbbell up of your shoulders. It ends up being a really difficult strict press from a really difficult rack position. A light dead-ball is a game changer for safely understanding and unlocking your legs in the press, by turning it into a vertical shot put. This is just part one of @coachmitchmayhew’s Monster Dumbbell Tips - So make sure to follow us to not miss the next vid ✌️
