If you’ve seen the new AWF Qualifying & Grading standards for 2020 you might be surprised to not only see that the qualification standard for the Senior Championships has risen but also that the Standard for the Australian Open has also dramatically increased as well.
In this video I outline some potential implications of this change by comparing the Results of this years Senior Nationals to the Qualification Standards. Noting that only 39 of the total 132 Australian Competitors would hit the standard for next year.
I go through some of the potential thought processes involved in this decision, particularly a big push into 2020 and 2024 Olympics, possible cuts in funding and why I think this may be a step backwards.
